Pat is best known today for her
watercolor floral paintings. She came
to appreciate the spontaneity and
excitement that happens when adding
water to pigment. In her opinion, “this
illusive medium is always an exciting
challenge”.
Pat finds that watercolor, although
considered by most to be a totally
loose and fluid medium, also allows her
to use a dry brush technique in a tightly
controlled way that lends itself to
developing images with strong colors
and form that she finds exciting. “I am
always amazed at what happens on my
palette and paper when water and
paint start doing their thing.”
She continues to explore the versatile
medium further, learning more about
glazing, loose wet-in-wet, and
“negative” space techniques. Dunbar
believes, “painting is a continuing
learning process with growth and
fulfillment being the reward.”
